Dr. Munné uses either fragments of a patient’s own bone, synthetic bone material or donated bone to replace the bone destroyed by gum disease. Bone grafting creates a new platform for bone regrowth, which restores stability to teeth. There is also a new technology, called tissue engineering, that encourages your body to regenerate bone and tissue at an accelerated rate.
Dr. Munné smooths any shallow craters in the bone caused by moderate to advanced bone loss. Typically following flap gum surgery, she reshapes the bone around the tooth to decrease craters that attract bacteria. This procedure makes it more difficult for bacteria to collect and multiply.
