Placing dental implants is a type of oral surgery that Houston periodontist Dr. Munné can perform when you are missing one or more teeth. The complete process from implanting the titanium cylinder (which acts as a tooth root) to placing of the dental crown. or tooth cap, typically takes several months.
First, Dr. Munné surgically places the titanium cylinder in the jawbone. Titanium is a metal that is friendly to the body. Once titanium dental implants are placed, it usually takes several months to heal with the bone. After the implant has integrated with the jawbone, it’s ready for the dental crown, which is connected to the dental implant by an abutment. The abutment is a post that fits inside the implant cylinder and sticks out far enough to fit the dental crown on top. When the dentist cements the dental crown to the abutment, the dental implant procedure is complete.
