Dr. Munné performs root canals on teeth that are so severely decayed or infected, they are in danger of being lost. Dr. Munné uses today’s latest microsurgical techniques along with an extra-gentle touch to perform this in-office procedure under local anesthesia.
If patients are fearful or anxious about having a root canal procedure, Dr. Munné offers oral sedation and nitrous oxide to relax them so they don’t feel pain or anxiety. After gently removing the infected or inflamed pulp, she carefully shapes and disinfects the inside of the canal, using state-of-the-art imaging to determine the precise location of the root tip. She then fills and seals the root canal with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha.
Dr. Munné can perform most root canals in a single visit. Once the root canal therapy has been completed, she will promptly send a written report to the referring dentist. The remaining tooth structure will be stronger with a permanent restoration or dental crown. Most teeth that undergo root canal therapy also need a dental crown to restore and protect the tooth and biting/chewing functions.
