Dental Implants Q&A

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that anchor dentures, crowns, or bridges to replace missing teeth.

Dental implants are posts made of titanium that promote quick healing and strong teeth. You might need bone grafting before implant placement to achieve outstanding results.

Artificial teeth attached to dental implants are either fixed in place (permanent) or removable. The right choice depends on your unique situation, lifestyle, and preferences.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

The benefits of choosing dental implants at Anna M. Munné, DDS, PA & ASSOCIATES include:

  • Superior results
  • Natural-looking teeth
  • Beautiful smile
  • Reduced adjacent teeth shifting
  • Clearer speech
  • Easier chewing
  • Low risk of complications

Dental implants function and look like your natural teeth and may last a lifetime if you care for them properly.

Are dental implants right for me?

Dr. Munné lets you know if you need dental implants after asking about your oral health history, symptoms, and desired results. She examines your teeth and gums, takes dental X-rays, and tailors a personalized cosmetic dentistry treatment plan just for you.

What should I expect when getting dental implants?

Receiving dental implants is usually a multiple-step process. Dr. Munné first completes bone grafting if you don’t have enough sturdy bone in your jaw to support the implants.

During implant placement, she numbs the treatment area and inserts one or more dental implants into your jawbone. After the bone heals around your implants, which could take several months, you return to the office.

Dr. Munné scans your teeth and mouth and sends the information to a dental lab, where technicians create custom-fitted crowns, bridges, or dentures. When the teeth are ready, she securely attaches them to the dental implants to give you a full set of beautiful teeth and an aesthetically pleasing smile.

How can I reduce the risk of complications?

It’s important to take good care of your teeth and gums after you receive dental implants. Follow all of Dr. Munné’s instructions. Wear a mouthguard at night if you grind your teeth, brush your teeth after meals, floss regularly, and avoid chewing on hard objects.

If you have removable dentures, remove them before you go to bed and use a denture cleaning solution (or a toothbrush and toothpaste) to keep them clean between uses.
